Simple Elegance in Berkeley

Lena and Noah were the perfect laid back but super-in-love couple. Every detail of their wedding was thoughtful, but not fussy, and it was clear throughout the day that their priority was for guests to enjoy themselves in classy but relaxed California style.

I loved that Noah and Lena kept it simple so they could focus on what really mattered to them; hanging out with their closest friends and family and committing their lives to each other, NBD.

Aside from an epic venue overlooking the San Francisco Bay - until Karl the Fog rolled in of course - they kept their decor simple with clean fresh whites, a focus on the amazing architecture and scenery around, and a special nod to their favorite drink, the Moscow Mule.

Added bonus: Lawrence Hall of Science kept some of their interactive exhibits open just for this party and let guests mill around and explore all the scienc-ey things with their moscow mules in hand. So. Freaking. Cool.

Yosemite Elopement

I am such a fan of intimate elopements in beautiful settings, and this intimate ceremony in El Capitan Meadow at Yosemite National Park was one for the books.

There's just something about syncing up one of the most important days of your life with nature that resonates so deeply with me. I love that our backdrop was granite and trees, our music was breeze and birds, and our focus was on this couple's gorgeous love. Simple, beautiful, and powerful are the three words that come to mind when I think about this day.

Ciara and Zack read the most beautiful vows, witnessed by a handful of their closest family. Ciara got ready behind a screen in the woods, while Zack waited in the meadow for his bride and her father to take the long stroll to the spot we had picked out for their ceremony. There was not a dry eye in the circle and I had to pause several times to collect myself because the emotion was so real.

When I sat down to edit these images, it was like I was there again. Again, I cried through the ceremony, smiled at the groom's first attempts at the Dirty Dancing lift, gasped at the photos of Ciara standing quietly in front of Half Dome.

What an incredible job I have, to see so much beauty and to make it last forever.

And a huge thank you to Bobby Harding of The Deeplight Company for being my second shooter on this magical day. <3

Davenport Engagement

As a wedding photographer, I think that opting into an engagement shoot if you have the budget is the best thing ever! It allows me a chance to hang out with the couple and put their mind at ease when they're worried that they're not photogenic, awkward, stiff, etc...

Tammy and Jacob were like most couples; totally in love but nervous about their lack of experience in front of the camera. We had their nervousness dissolved in oh... about 5 minutes flat. I know that good photos come from comfort and ease, so my main goal before I try to go for that epic light or epic pose is to do just that - make sure my couples are comfortable, at ease, and having fun. (I am not above tickle wars, piggy back rides, eskimo kisses, or dirty jokes, and you should expect all of that during your shoot with me, just letting you know rn.) Also, champagne. Champagne totes helps.

Tammy and Jacob also happen to be hilarious and awesome people and we had an amazing time working together. Also, this beach has just made it to my number one favorite, as it's got great features and seems to be much less popular than the other beaches in Davenport. All around amazing shoot this one, makes me so grateful to be a photographer.

And props to my second shooter, Bobby of Deeplight Company, for bringing his Santa Cruz vibes and making this one extra fun ;)

Almond Blossom Engagement

Sometimes when you live in a place for a while, you take for granted all its unique attributes. Living in the Central Valley, it's easy gloss over the countless orchards, agriculture fields, and dairy farms you pass by everyday.

In late winter, however, the almond blossoms take center stage, and we all notice. I'm so glad this amazingly sweet couple decided to shoot their engagement in an almond blossom during golden hour. Added bonus is Brooke's incredible red dress, the perfect contrast to the white blossoms. Just one of those sessions where everything comes together perfectly, and I'm just so stoked with what we created.

Shark Fin Cove Engagement

All the heart eyes for this couple and this location. Courtney and Daniel obviously killed it (see below), and also happen to be one of my sweetest, kindest couples ever, anddddd Bob and I were somehow blessed with 70 degree weather in Santa Cruz in February.

More beach engagements, weddings, elopements, please!

Fall Mini Session 11.12.17 - PT. ONE

So I booked a bunch of fall mini sessions over the course of a few weekends this season and am so very happy with the results! I had newly engaged couples, young families, pets, and business headshots. Even though the mini sessions were only 30-40 minutes, I felt like I was able to get a real sense of who these people were, and was able to get images I love from each set. Blogging all of them because I loved them so much, here's part one...

Castillo Family...

Johnson Family...

Keller Family...

Te Velde Family

Ok, so aside from the fact that this family is really really good looking, they also clearly love each other A LOT. They were smiling and laughing the whole shoot, and they even come to my yoga classes together. Lightweight want to be adopted into this family ;)

They also just recently moved and wanted a family session on their property in Modesto to show friends and family their new land and home. We did most of the shoot near a 200 year old oak tree in the middle of a huge alfalfa field during golden hour. #Goals.
